Over chicken

The dogs need a low fat diet, so I am trying to find a source of cheap, freerange chicken to boil for them.  Today I found 3 packets of thighs on special going out of date.  I had no idea I was committing myself to an entire morning of trimming, boiling and dicing.  I feel like Farmer Boggis, no doubt I smell like him too. Received a call back from AWS for their Technical Account Manager role, phone interview next week.  Will have to do my homework. Encouraged to submit CV for Bankwest for IT Helpdesk role and for KIT, though I've no idea what the job description there would be. Washed the car too, another hot day, dusty before I'd even put it back in the car port.

My kingdom for a mentor

Spent the morning watching the Climate Disclosure Standards Board's webinar called "Improve your TCFD reporting", making notes.  Enrolled in part 2, to be at 6am this Thursday.  Might have to watch the replay of that too. Redirected by an email from Mark highlighting two Support roles at Bankwest, and applied for them. Still need a mentor so with that in mind I enrolled in the Carbon Management unit at Murdoch. My denttabs arrived too, in compostible packaging called " Heropack ". Phew, it's hot today.

One day in

Spent the morning making notes about the IHS Markit Global Carbon Index from a podcast   by IHS parent company Opis. Their incentive behind the Index is to provide a price for carbon, and provide incentive for investment in emitters within the trade and cap schemes that the carbon markets trade within. Question from a friend, if you are going to create reports, what standards to they need to meet? Another friend asked me to send in my CV for consideration by Kinect IT.

Lasts

Tumultuous day.  First time in 20 years that I've had no cases in my queue. Sent my last email, sent out a good bye to all, sent appreciation to all my managers and colleagues, prepped my laptops for return tomorrow, (going to miss the Macbook).  It's replacement arrived yesterday.  Said goodbye to to Julia.  Two ex colleagues contacted me about potential opportunities at their place of work and asked for a CV.  Received good advice from Luke about highlighting the relevant experience and appreciated his outreach having been through the same 3 or 4 years ago.  Finished the day listening to Rachel Dease singing her own composition Hymns for End Times live with WASO and members of Voyces, including Kira, soprano supremo. It was a wonderful soundscape, closed my eyes and let it transport me away.
Second interview appeared to go well today. Very torn.  If I take a full time position now, regardless of how nice the job is, I won't have time to pursue a change of career.  Not having an income provides the panic that drives the learning in TCFD reporting.

All about the CV

Attended the Conservation Council of Western Australia's Candidates Forum meeting online last night.   A comprehensive presentation on the goals and targets of CCWA , and four of its member groups, the Forest Alliance, Environs Kimberley, the Wilderness Society and Protect Ningaloo.  They are all advocating for environmental protection and action on climate change leading up to the election in March.  Good to see faces, hear strategy, pose questions and capture information. My CV has gone through its 11th and hopefully final draft.  Small changes should be made for each application, but overall I think it should suit. First interview with Spok today, software support for a company that provides secure communication and scheduling to hospitals in the US.  Wonder how that will go.

Drama day

Day two of lockdown. Two days without a new case in the whole of Australia! Bushfire in Wooroloo, in the Hills just a little east of Perth. Benjie getting an ultrasound scan of his abdomen (all in the clear). Phew! Finished 1 of 6 lessons on TCFD 1 reporting and passed the little test at the end :) It was a good lesson.  It set out to explain why reporting on climate-related financial disclosure is so complex.  First are the needs of the various audiences.  Different classes of stakeholder want to know specific information about your future in relation to climate change, because they all have their own plans for you. Then there are the ways to deliver the information, a constellation of national and international standards organizations with frameworks for measuring and reporting. Lastly a myriad of NGOs, governance and advisory bodies to assist you achieve your disclosure goals. In all of this noise how does anyone find a common, clear metric that s...

TCFD education

Focusing on Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD) reporting after listening to Mark Carney talk about exposing individual business impact on Climate Change in his final Reith Lecture 2020. The TCFD website has some basic education which I've added to my to-do list. But the Open University website chucked two postgrad units at me, one at Curtain and one at Murdoch, after which I received a call from Jessica at the OU.  I called Murdoch to see if their course covered TCFD reporting.  Curtin is proving much harder, their webform enquiry doesn't appear to work and their switchboard dumped me twice. Perseverance pays off, I got the details for the unit co-ordinators for both Universities.  Emails away, looking forward to the responses. Spent the rest of the day doing the day job.  Now the sun is going down, I'll dive into the free information that the TCFD publish .
