Fretting and prepping

 I survived the 'Loop', four 1 hour interviews with staffers at Amazon Web Services.  Now the fretting starts.

I really want this job, it's a baby technical account manager role, put L plates on, do the heavy lifting for the existing TAMs so they can dive deeper into their customers.  The potential for learning is just so wide.   And they are nice people too.   A good substitute for my compadres from whom IBM have cut me loose.  

Ugh, I see a cliff ahead, a pit of self doubt if this week brings rejection.  Replaying my interviews I see lots of opportunities for them to confirm, he doesn't raise the bar.

How to prepare ... 

My good friend Harry says, 

   Think of ways of being successful in new companies. 

It's a version of asking, what does success look like? I can work with that, a beer to you Harry.  

Mum says, 

    At the beginning you didn't want the job.

She's partly right, a G&T for you Ma.
At the beginning of the Sideways 49 there was a plan,

  • get interviews for practice. 
  • Educate yourself on environmental things, which quickly became, educate yourself on TCFD.  

My local council's sustainability officer kindly sent me an application for their Sustainability and Environmental Advisory Group.  I've applied, who knows.

Clean State are still organising, I'll be more involved with them.

And I've only had interviews for 4 jobs, that's not much in the way of practice, (although the 6 in total for the junior TAM role has increased the overal tally significantly).  So there are many, many more jobs to be wranged.

These foundations may make for a stable, if unpleasant reaction should this week turn out to be a bad one.

Over chicken

The dogs need a low fat diet, so I am trying to find a source of cheap, freerange chicken to boil for them.  Today I found 3 packets of thighs on special going out of date.  I had no idea I was committing myself to an entire morning of trimming, boiling and dicing.  I feel like Farmer Boggis, no doubt I smell like him too. Received a call back from AWS for their Technical Account Manager role, phone interview next week.  Will have to do my homework. Encouraged to submit CV for Bankwest for IT Helpdesk role and for KIT, though I've no idea what the job description there would be. Washed the car too, another hot day, dusty before I'd even put it back in the car port.

Next prep and more study

 Second interview with AWS tomorrow so lots of prep on their behavioural question methods. Also found an introductory course into Environment, Social Governance , ESG hosted by the Corporate Finance Institute.  Here's a scary lesson from the later stages of the course, there are a number of rating and ranking agencies that will place a company within a rank based on publicly avaiable ESG information. But they warn that each agency has its own method of determining the rank, which leaves very little conformity across the agencies.  Here's a comparison they provide between three clothing manufacturers and four agencies. All about the CV

Attended the Conservation Council of Western Australia's Candidates Forum meeting online last night.   A comprehensive presentation on the goals and targets of CCWA , and four of its member groups, the Forest Alliance, Environs Kimberley, the Wilderness Society and Protect Ningaloo.  They are all advocating for environmental protection and action on climate change leading up to the election in March.  Good to see faces, hear strategy, pose questions and capture information. My CV has gone through its 11th and hopefully final draft.  Small changes should be made for each application, but overall I think it should suit. First interview with Spok today, software support for a company that provides secure communication and scheduling to hospitals in the US.  Wonder how that will go.
